On February 14, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 season begins. The cricket league is in its third season. Harmanpreet Kaur led the Mumbai Indians to victory in the inaugural season. Under Smriti Mandhana’s leadership, Royal Challengers Bengaluru emerged victorious in the second season.
In the first game, the Gujarat Giants will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the reigning champions. Since the game will be played in Vadodara, Gujarat, the Giants will have the home field advantage.
There are five teams competing in WPL 2025. The Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, and UP Warriorz will also play, in addition to the Giants and the RCB. There will be 22 games throughout the season. The Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai will host the final on March 15.
For the first five years, the BCCI intends to give franchise owners 80% of the competition’s earnings. Franchises will get 60% over the next five seasons. The share will be 50% from Seasons 11 through 15.
Additionally, franchises will receive 80% of the profits from central licensing rights. Additionally, teams can generate revenue from advertising, ticket sales, and merchandise.
WPL records
With 676, Meg Lanning (DC) is the league’s all-time leading scorer. Sophie Devine (RCB), who scored 99 versus GG on March 18, 2023, has the highest individual score. To date, no one has scored a century in the WPL.
Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning (DC) struck 162 runs together, the biggest partnership ever, against RCB. Meg Lanning has the most fifties (6), whereas Verma has the most sixes (33) as well.
The most wickets (27) are held by Sophie Ecclestone of UPW, while Ellyse Perry of RCB had the best bowling stats (6/15) against MI.
As a wicketkeeper, Richa Ghosh (RCB) has the most dismissals (22) while Radha Yadav (DC) has the most catches (12). The Gujarat Giants scored the lowest total (64), while the Delhi Capitals had the greatest (223/2).
